Here in my part of the world of Durango, CO we have a bicycle race that began off a bet or racing the steam engined train from Durango to Silverton. Durango has an elevation of 6500ft and Silverton is 9300ft. In between are two mountain passes. One that summits 10,610 and the other 10,900ft. Here is a link to a map. Link I have never done a road race in my life. I was approached to do this race by some friends to raise money for a local youth ranch. They asked if I would ride ...

The United Blood Service was doing a blood drive where I worked. After our previous discussions here on JU I decided to give some of my life saving red liquid. I thought I wasn't going to be able to give as my resting heart rate was below 45. I was at 43 bpm. But they asked if I exercised more than 2 hours a week. The first piece I don't like is the prick of the finger. They had this new needle that I didn't even feel it! I was shocked. After going through all the preliminary tests I ...

I was riding my bicycle at lunch today and rode past some people playing some hoops. There were no officials. There were no rowdy fans. There were no cameras. There were no attitudes. The name of the game was H-O-R-S-E The people came to play to have fun. All with Smiles on their faces. I for one enjoy NBA playoffs but feel that they are definitely over payed and many are 'cry babies.' It was really exciting to me to watch people play the game in it's purity. Just For Fun. Th...

Yes it is that time of the year. The day that I was brought into this world 27 years ago and shortly upon my arrival I was spanked! This should have been a warning to the many more I received as a child. Birthdays are days that many people make a rather large deal about. Some will throw a large party others will go out and paint the town. I know some that try to ignore it. But this year I want to do something a little different. I want to thank my mom for bringing me into this wor...

I received this email. Stories seem true but thought I would try to lighten up everyone's friday. Remember They Vote Some guy bought a new fridge for his house. To get rid of his old fridge, he put it in his front yard and hung a sign on it saying: "Free to good home. You want it, you take it". For three days the fridge sat there without even one person looking twice at it. He eventually decided that people were too un-trusting of this deal. It looked to good to be true, so he ...

It begins two nights before the 'day.' There is no knife nor sharp object. No this would make the pain easier. Even the use of a dull utensil would be more desired. There is no visible wound nor trace of blood. But the pain wrenches the whole body. The stomach turns and wreaks as it receives it's share of the pain. The back is rippled with pain as it slowly makes it's way around throughout the body. As the 'day' draws near the pain is more intense. The 'day' arrives. The focus is no ...

Yes that's right. As of today I have 430 days left to live. No longer will I have the freedom of free choice. I will no longer be able to make my own choices in life. No longer will the decisions made effect only one person. As of Tuesday April 4 I am now engaged for a life long adventure that is set to begin in June of 07. Although this is not a race it will definitely be an adventure. And just like an adventure race when there are times when you feel like you can't go on or you...

Greetings JU, I just received a third call from the United blood services. It so happens that I have the universal blood type of O-. First of all I HATE NEEDLES. Yeah call me a wuss if you want but I have always not been fond of those metallic mosquitoes. I gave blood once because I know that I have O- and am in high demand. Here is my dilemma. I know I can save a life by giving. Although my fear of metallic mosquitoes can be overcome my hesitation comes from not fully unders...

I was studying up on the Origins of April Fool's Day and here is what I found. In 1582 Pope Gregory XIII declared that New Year's Day was to be observed on Jan. 1 of 1583. 1583 is when the Pope made changes to the existing Julian Calendar. On this year (1582) the New Year's Day occured on April 1st. This was also the first day of Passover which according to Exodus 12 is a Biblical New Year. In the New year (1583) anyone who observed the New Year between the end of March and Beginning o...

Last Fall I went to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. While I was there I learned that all their food was totally organic. These are not people that grow organic for small farmer's profit as here in the states. Their crops are organic due to affordability. They cannot afford pesticides nor herbicides. While I was there I experienced the health of my youth. The meats are anti-biotic free and are totally natural. The milk there (although not pastuerized) tasted so much better. Yes Kyrgyzstan is a VER...

In this article I want to provide a different perspective that you may not have heard before regarding the Law. I am going to use an analogy I heard and have expanded upon. Many of us drive an automobile of some sort. We all are aware of the laws that exist when driving on the road (ie speed limits, stop signs, right of ways, etc). There are two ways to look at these laws. We can look at them as mere suggestions or that they are ridiculous (or take the fun away) and so we break them carele...

There are two types of grace that are translated from the Hebrew and Greek Text. Grace- Pleasant, precious, beauty, etc. & Grace- Mercy, unmerited favor, compassion, etc. These are two distinctly different definitions found in the Hebrew and Greek text of the Bible. Hebrew: Chesed - unmerited favor (Strong’s #2616/17) Chen - precious. (Strong’s #2580/81) Greek: Eleos - unmerited favor (Strong’s #1651/53) Charis - precious (Strong’s #5485/63) Here are the nu...
