The Adventure in the Dude continues

The United Blood Service was doing a blood drive where I worked. After our previous discussions here on JU I decided to give some of my life saving red liquid. I thought I wasn't going to be able to give as my resting heart rate was below 45. I was at 43 bpm. But they asked if I exercised more than 2 hours a week. The first piece I don't like is the prick of the finger. They had this new needle that I didn't even feel it! I was shocked. After going through all the preliminary tests I was approved. I had signed up for the 2 RBC so I give less often. During the first round something happened and oxygen was found somewhere and they were only able to get one unit of RBC this time. The supervisor was telling me about the different situations that took place recently where blood saved peoples life. Made me feel proud for my meager contribution. I'll say this since I exercised alot and at high altitude (56% iron rating) someone will feel good. Needless to say I STILL don't like needles and I think I will never grow a liking to metallic mosquitoes. But knowing it maybe a loved one's life will be saved because I gave. I feel like a superhero.

Yes you are! Way to go!  I am proud of you!  You should have seen what they use to do with the finger prick!  Yuck!

I am still waiting for the star Trek Hypo, but I give regularly as well.  Because I can, even tho I am deathly afraid of needles too!  A herione addict I will never be!

And thank you!  From one who gives and would like to see all that can give.  The unfortunate truth is so many cannot.

This was the second time I have EVER given blood and although I was only able to give 1 RBC it was a much more delightful than last time. Less pain.
